What's on R.O.T.A's Mind.

Hi,

So I was basically flicking through the sky channels and couldn't help but notice B.E.T and after watching it for like 20 minutes I think I learnt how to "Dougie" and probably a few rap lyrics. Now I went over to an online Asian Channel and there was so much information about the Japanese Tsunami, news, culture etc. and I couldn't help but wonder...WHAT IS WRONG WITH B.E.T? Like seriously rap videos, the word "nigga" and "bitch" in nearly every rap song (censored of course - you could tell by the silent bleeps) and the degradation of females in the videos and the stereotypical and hot mess content. I cannot believe this is a channel worthy of being called "Black Entertainment" I was neither entertained nor felt it reflected what it meant to be Black.

Black Entertainment to me is X, Do the right thing, The Fresh Prince, The Cosbys, Family Matters, Desmonds and the many other Black shows that presented a fair and balanced image of the reality of being Black in America or Britain or any part of the world. I guess now it pays a lot more for you to act like an embarrassment and get a fat wallet. We need to be entertained without spitting on the image of every Black person around the world. We are everywhere - Africa, Asia, The Middle East, Latin America, North America, The Caribbean, Europe, and Australia. Why not diversify it to reflect a more realistic picture of the VARIETIES of Black people? Why continue to show us are our lowest and least successful? Who benefits from these images and who suffers from them? I will tell you the beneficiaries - record labels and rap companies; and the suffers - millions of Black youth who are killed chasing the "gangster dream".

R.O.T.A aims to do better and it can only be possible when the WORLD wants to do better. so ask yourself am I contributing to this by watching an "entertainment programme" or do I have the power to STOP racial exploitation?

The choice is yours....what's it going to be?
